The souring of beer has been around for centuries and for many of those years it has only been a very small section of the craft beer scene. In the recent years sour beers have become some of the most sought after and coveted brews in the world.
These beers sometimes take years to ferment and are often brewed in small batches due to the length of time it takes to perfect them. The style was originally an accident caused by the lack of sanitation which allowed wild yeasts and bacteria to infect the beer during the brewing process. Now a days the hardy yeast Brettanomyces and the bacteria Lactobacillus are use to craft complex masterpieces.
We wanted to share these interesting creations with you this week in honor of Sour Beer Day, which is Sunday the 13th. So please stop by this Thursday to taste offerings from breweries like Cascade, Rodenbach, The Bruery and more.
