It's unfortunate that Bordeaux has become a region most people don't look to for value anymore, especially because the quality at the lower end of the price scale is probably higher than it has ever been. Don't get me wrong: there is a lot of crap out there, but there are also quite a few sound, pleasant wines that are great options for daily drinkers. Plus, with occasional problems moving such wines through the supply chain, there are sometimes great deals to be had. This week's offered wine is a perfect example.
My thoughts: The nose offers notes of bright, fresh red and black currant, tart cherry, and wild raspberry, along with hints of cocoa and vanilla. The palate is light, zippy, and clean. This is a fresh, fruitful style of Bordeaux rather than the earthy, sometimes funky style that some wines offer. It's a pleasant drink at a good price.
